Help! Where to book for DH's 40th this month?

Help please! DH is 40 this month and I've promised to sort out a surprise long weekend! Plan A is off the cards as I'm 12 weeks pregnant and isn't suitable. I hadn't booked anything as if I'd miscarried I would have booked plan A, but so far I'm still pregnant and really need so book something!

I'm thinking city break in Southern Europe type thing? Probably three nights, with flights from London.

Any ideas please?

(NC for this as have friends who use mn and pregnancy is still secret).

Barcelona is now on the list of European cities that are so packed with tourists in summer that there is a big backlash among locals. If you visit in January you will be one of a very small number of tourists, so you can enjoy the Sagrada Familia and other sights without having to stand in endless queues. You'll obviously need some outerwear, but Barcelona is on the coast and it never gets very cold. The dining scene is fantastic all year round.

Alternatively, you could embrace the cold in Iceland.... Northern Lights, thermal bars and 5-star restaurants.

Provence, stay in Aix, Nice or Avignon (fly into Marseille but don’t stay there).

Lisbon or Porto In Portugal?

Granada or Seville in Spain?

We just went to Reykjavik for DP's 40th. Would recommend it - but check timings of excursions, etc, to make sure you get the most of what little daylight there is. Other places I considered, or would have done had we not already visited:

Stockholm - loads to do regardless of weather.
Berlin - ditto.
Rome
Sevilla and/or Córdoba
Granada
Istanbul
Marrakech - might actually be warm!
Tel Aviv - again, might be warm (my friend went for New Year and really recommended it).

Thanks everyone. Iceland was the Plan A but as I can't go in hot tubs and am being a bit cautious worrying about icy pavements I'm going to skip that for when I can enjoy it properly with him.

So many ideas, Seville sounds interesting so I'll start digging into that.

Another vote for Vienna.

Budapest! It’s lush. Or Ljubljana - I went to there and Lake Bled last year and it was just stunning

I went to Vienna for my 30th in January. It was minus 14! The cold was absolutely brutal.
