Planning on a trip to Mexico from the UK

I'm planning on a holiday in September (baby will be 2 months old) providing baby is healthy and fit. I live in the UK and want to go to Mexico for 2 weeks. I've been before, but obviously not with a 2 month old. Baby will be breastfed.

Can anyone advise if this is safe? Can anyone think of concerns? (EG - Don't drink the water etc., Keep baby out the sun) Has anyone done this before?

I'd think carefully about taking a young baby so far, mostly because it'll be hard work when you're likely to be tired.
Where abouts in Mexico, it's a big country?

You'll need to keep him/her covered up all the time to prevent mosquito bites and should consider travel vaccines for yourself.
Baby's first immunisations will be at 8 weeks, I'd consider postponing a bit if it were me.

I'm thinking of Riviera Maya. I will be in a resort and we have been before so know what to expect etc.

We planning on getting a mosquito net to protect the baby.

I didn't think of their immunisations at 8 weeks, so we may postpone until slightly after this time.

I would ask the doctor or immunisation nurse for advice. My baby got an infection at three months and was hospitalised. The doctor told me that up to around three months babies bodies are not so good at isolating infections which means they can spread and sepsis is a real risk. Since then I have been nervous about exposing my baby to illnesses I may not have had and hence passed on any immunity for. I have no clue if the illnesses in Mexico vary much to UK but something to consider.

Do you need immunisations to go to Mexico? I have been but on a bigger trip so had lots of injections and forget where for. If you do, can they be given to a baby?

I got the worst food poisoning I have ever had in Mexico. I don't speak good Spanish and found it stressful getting the medicine I needed. Make sure you have good health insurance.

I love Mexico. I would just get proper advice before you book anything.

Thankyou, I will be getting professional advice from the midwives, nurses and my doctor before booking. I just wanted some advice from people who may have done it before.

They recommend a few immunisations before travelling such as rabies which i don't think is suitable for a newborn. But the realistic risk of baby getting bitten by an animal is fairly minute.

I loved Mexico when we went last year, its just obviously slightly different with a baby too. If we do go, we will be going to the same hotel as we know what the food is like etc.

I am going to be brutally honest here - going back to somewhere that you really loved before you had a baby with a new born is like two completely different holidays. it wont be what it was like last time because there are 3 of you and not 2.

don't underestimate the stress of staying in a hotel with a small colicky baby screaming its head off all night whilst you try to shush to sleep.

wait until your baby arrives, see what sort of baby you have and then book something. most people find a baby changes everything. good luck

We’ll be looking to go end of October and to the pacific coast which is meant to be better in terms of weather

It as lovely - do it! One of our best holiday, babies are best to travel with at that age. LA was a bit difficult only because we were out and about a lot, but Mexico, especially our resort, was perfect. Can’t wait to go back one day.
