Are you able to use these during flights?

Thought it would keep almost 2 year old sitting in one place for a few minutes at least.

Anyone got any buying hints e.g. battery life etc?

Apart from take-off/landing you can use them. No idea on type to get - sorry. We've taken a laptop before now.

I guess I could take the laptop but it is so much bigger than a portable dvd player and given hand luggage restrictions would be too big to fit in along with nappies, toys, and all the other stuff. But it would have saved me £80!
What a shame!

We splashed out and bought 2 about 3 years ago and they are fab. ours are 'proline' whihc is comet or currys own make and at the time they cost about £70 but were on offer. Battery life in general is not great (unless things have improved). Ours are about 3 hrs, can't remember oficially what they are supposed to be but at the time that was the longest you could get and then i think they take about 5 hrs to charge. never taken them on a flight as only been to paris since we got them and din;t seem worth it but they are fab on car journeys and also handy in the hotel room when you get there!

I have an ipod which plays video. It has a stated 6.5 hour battery life, though has lasted London to Florida. You can download DVDs and transfer them onto the ipod, and dh has bought some gizmo that lets our pc function as a Freeview box, so I recorded plenty of CBeebies etc for the flight. It is very small and light, and there are no dvds to lose!

We bought a Phillips one..battery life 2.5hrs - best thing ever! DS didn't actually need it during the flight so I amused myself watching Peter Kay's phoenix nights!!

Thanks all - we got the Philips one and it was great for the flight. BUT I wish I'd seen your post Ladymuck before we bought it / left for the holiday as the IPOD sounds a great idea!

It is defintely my top tip for anywhere that there is waits - doctors, theme parks etc, as you can plug them in for 10 minutes or so (whereas the dvd players seem a bit heavy to do that with).
