October half term in 2018 we would love to visit New York. We have 4 dc under 10 and I am struggling to find accommodation that would git us all in that isn't super expensive. Has anyone been and have any advice?

We went last year and stayed in New Jersey, Hilton Homewood Suites.
We have 4 kids aged 7-13 and they had one large room with two King sized beds, a kitchen area and a sofa bed.
It was a short bus ride to the main bus terminal in New York. It was really reasonable and breakfast buffet was included too.

don't be tempted to book an airbnb in New York to save money. letting restrictions means that in the central areas this sort of letting is illegal and lots of people have run into trouble with it. it will be expensive as its school holidays and bigger families like ours/yours always struggle to find right size accommodation.

I've booked a really nice apartment in Harlem on booking.com. it's been gentrified and a Wholefoods was being built near 125th Street when I was there last year.

Try Tryp time square south. family rooms, will suit size and good (tho not great) location.

We booked an apartment on e38th called Oakwood via flight center. It was large 2 bed, two bathroom with double pull out and small kitchen, fitted six of us and my kids were older. Great location.

Sorry, pressed to soon,
We’re staying in Doubletree Suites in New Jersey. We’re staying in a corner suite, which has two rooms , one with two double beds, and one with a huge (and very comfortable) sofa beds. Two rooms are very handy if you want the kids to go to bed before you. Each room as a huge TV, and there’s free WiFi.

It’s a quick walk to the path train station, which takes you straight into Manhattan (world trade centre or midtown) very quickly for $2.75.

Even taking into account the cost of the train, it worked out about £800 cheaper than the equvalent hotel in Times Square fir 3 nights, and I’ve been really pleased at how easy it has been to get into the city, just as easy as taking a subway.

Doubletree in Jersey City is a great option. Also look at airbnb apartments in Hoboken NJ. There are a couple of 3 bed units and plently of two bed units sleep 6 comfortably. Prices are so much lower than NYC and airbnb is legal here (for now).
