I'm planning on taking my 2 teenagers for a city break in April.
Noticed there are 2 airports, Tegel and Schoenefeld. Considerably cheaper to fly to Schoenefeld but where is the catch?

Also what is a good area to stay? We like to walk everywhere so relatively central. Will probably try to book an AIRbnb or self catering apartment as not keen on hotels.

Kids are very excited to go..

Berlin is not the only city where Airbnb’s business growth is being reined in by regulators responding to housing concerns. The laws in Berlin have changed and now only rooms can be rented out, not entire properties. Be very careful if you use such sites. I realise you are not keen on hotels but you may well need to look at these instead.

We stayed in the Stadmitte area.

This is quite a useful website:-

Great city. We went up the Berlin TV tower on our first day, which was much better way than I expected to get a sense of the town. We had breakfast which was great but you can just go up the tower.

The tour of the Reichstag was also much better than expected. And free. You just need to sign up in advance.

Also really enjoyed a boat trip along the river.

Have fun!!

I went to Berlin for work but stayed in a hotel - the Golden Tulip - quite near the zoo, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, and the big department store - the KaDeWe. It was also within walking distance of the Tiergarten and the Brandenburg Gate and so on. Work chose the hotel, but it seemd quite a good location for being able to get out and see stuff at the end of each day!

Reichstag dome
The wall museum on Bernauer Str is incredible
Topographie of Terror
Stasi museum
Jewish museum
Memorial to the murdered Jews

A bit further out:
Wannsee conference house
Olympic stadium

Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg are good places to stay.

Re the Reichstag tour do book this in advance. You will need to show your passport in order to enter it.

Thank you for the tips. Flight booked and now looking for accommodation. Plenty of choice on airbnb for flats which is easy life with the kids!
