Things to do with 6-month son in East Midlands

I currently live overseas but will be coming home for 3 weeks or so in May. Since DS is their first grandchild, my parents will want us to spend as possible with them. However their idea of "quality time" is watching TV all day, and I can see that I, DH and DS will be driven round the bed.

Any ideas for things to do in the area? They live in Grantham, but Lincoln, Nottingham, Leicester and Peterborough are all doable.

Thanks in advance.

There's a nice farm park at Hoveringham (Ferry Farm I think) - a small village east of Nottingham. Never been myself, but planning on taking ds this summer.
What about swimming pools?
If you like a walk - Wollaton Park in the city of Nottingham is good and although I've never been, Attenborough Nature Reserve is meant to be nice.

there is also white post farm at farnsfield north notts, ferry farm is good, my ds1 went there with my m&d.
opp white post is Wonderland, although your ds maybe a little young as it is mostly rides.

nearer to you is a place called twin lakes i think, nr melton supposed to be a great day out.
you could always go to skeg...

Go for a walk round the grounds of Belton House.
Rutland water has a butterfly house which is nice for little ones.

Here looks nice? Remember going on a school trip as a child
elsham hall is near Grantham too?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 27/04/2007 14:39

Elsham Hall is about 2hours away from Grantham.

Crumbs - you lot are amazing. Attenborough is great but I wouldn't drive all the way from Grantham to get to it. There must be loads of places you'd pass on the way.

I live between the M1 and Attenborough Nature Reserve and AFAIC it's a mammoth journey to Belton House.

2hrs oh sorry, is it worth a visit stripey?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 27/04/2007 16:54

Personally I dn't think Elsham is worth a visit, certainly not from 2hours away. I live an hour away and can't be bothered really.

Its £5 an adult and £4 a child to get into which puts me off when I can get into NT stuff for free.

The playground is ok, there's a lake to walk round, a few animals to see, lambs in spring, I think some owls. I've been to beter places.

What about Twycross Zoo? We took our ds there for the first time when he was about 10 months and he loved it.
