Best January destination with toddler?

We are totally flexible on location/weather (not much choice about that!) so thought I'd scout about for ideas. We want a real 'break' from London life, not averse to resort-type holidays if there is scope for some exploring and have 10-14 nights from 20th January. This will be 2 year old's first flight. Any recommendations for any type of holiday?

A beach holiday in the Canary Islands?
It depends how child-centred you want your holiday to be. We've found cottages near sandy beaches easiest and the most relaxing for ages 1-4.

I agree - Canaries. Warm, sunny, nice beaches, nice towns to explore, playgrounds, not too hot and lots of accommodation options from fancy hotels to simple, SC apartments.

Thanks, it does seem the safest option doesn't it...Been considering this, interailing Europe or long haul to S Africa but think we'll leave the last two for when DS is a few years older!

Lots of friends have done SA with a toddler in January, long flight but no jetlag.

Europe would be cold in Jan/Feb.
