Luxy hotel in between Newcastle up on Tyne and London needed

Taking the in laws away for a birthday treat in May. They live in Gateshead - we're driving up frm London and then going on to Newcastle for the half term so it's a way of splitting the journey. Was thinking Yorkshire or N Derbyshire, York?

Have three kids so needs to be child friendly, but also a bit special as it's a joint 60th and 70th celebration.

All ideas appreciated!

Belton Woods (A DeVere hotel) is just off the A1 by Grantham - perhaps not far enough north though?

Cll · 22/04/2007 21:31

thanks all

Grantham not quite north enough and Blackburn not quite the right direction ( we need somewhere off M1 or A1)

Have called loads of places now and all full for bank hol weekend so beginning to panic a bit! tried the de vere nearest Leeds, but gets some dodgy reviews on tripadvisor

Am sure something will come up, but glad of any more suggestions

Have you tried Meethalfway? it's a website that does exactly what you're looking for. Haven't used it and may not be special enough but give it a try maybe?

Try Crab & Lobster at Asneby N Yorks, has themed rooms and an amazing seafood restaurant and pub. Now has lodges with outdoor hotubs!! (need to book early for them - I tried a year in advance and couldn't get one) Erm another is Seaham Hall, v pricey but amazing, not too child friendly - VERY luxurious.
RAmside Hall in Co Durham. Matfen Hall just north of Newcastle. I'll try to think of more.

thanks all

Tried crab and lobster - all full

Seaham hall a bit too far north, need to be south of newcastle ideally

Will try meet half way place, but think biggest problem everywhere is that it's bank hol and everywhere's chocca!Aargh!

ooh stop press!!

Tried that meet half way thingy and ended up booking somewhere

it's this

They sounded lovely on the phone and trip advisor is more than half good about it and the location seems to be good too - so am well chuffed.

Thanks to all for taking the time to think about this. I do think mumsnetters are just such lovely helpful folks

Will let you know in June if it was any good or not!!
