Advice needed - cheapest way to fly to Boston or NY in July/August?

Zoom looks good but I don't know what their cheapest seats will mean. Maybe we'll be in the hold!
Any advice?
I'm a bit overwhelmed with my internet searches.

We've just asked at a travel agents about flights in July and she told us all the cheap seats are booked so her cheapest offer was about 600 per adult. We've decided to wait and maybe go in December.
