best beach resort in Majorca for next April?

Planning to go back to the land of our honey moon and take kids next April. Trouble is, when we were there we spent entire time in mountains, so don't know many beaches...we want somewhere that's not too commercialised but still has enough shops/playground. Looking to rent a villa..any ideas anyone?

Anywhere Mallorca except Magaluf and Puerto Pollensa.

hex · 20/04/2007 12:57

what's the problem with puerto pollensa...I'd like to know this cause I was under the impression that this was one of the child-friendly places so wld be really interesting to know
cheers

Great for prams, really good promenade, but the beach itself is really dirty. DD at the age of two picked up several poos in the sea, a result of the number of yachts moored just off. It's still nice, but I wouldn't recommend the beach.

Cala D'Or is quite noisy, but the Cala's around it are really nice.

weve just spent a very rainy easter in mallorca still hd fun but weather can be unreliable in april. we love colonia san pere in the NE end of Alcudia bay. very quiet and old fashioned. small beach but nice. cala coves near by beautiful. we rented an apartment in a complex at betlem, from owners direct. lovely low rise small apartment block in vast grounds with indoor and outdoor pool and playground. found it on owners direct. we really hate big resorts and were quite happy. then we had 2 nights at a monastry in the mountains, lots of fun basic and very cheap but an experience! kids 9 and 2 loved it. And we liked puerto pollensa no poo found!

hex · 20/04/2007 13:31

is betlem near the beach...can you remember what the complex was called by any chance - or the appt?

Puerto Pollensa IS lovely, very familyfriendly and a great clean and safe beach. I know it well as we used to own an apt there ourselves so can hapily recommend agents and areas to stay!

belgo · 20/04/2007 16:49

Also recommend Peurto Pollensa

puffling · 20/04/2007 19:52

Soller on the north coast. You can take the ancient narrow gauge train from Palma, through beatiful scenery to Soller. It's a pretty town and the resort Port de Soller is just down the road. It's not far from Deia where celebs and posh types stay.

puffling · 20/04/2007 19:57

Here'a list of Soller villas

willow2 · 21/04/2007 12:45

You know it might not be that hot? Water will still be cold for swimming, etc.

boo64 · 21/04/2007 21:20

Yes I agree - the weather could be quite dodgy in April. Lovely idea to go backto the same place and all that but if you have your heart set on sunbathing, beach life it might not happen...

hex · 22/04/2007 16:34

thanks for all yr messages...triplets, could you recommend agents or appts / villas?
That wld be really useful.
I know it's not going to be that hot but it might be warm some days. Our kids recently played on the beach and passled over the Easter break at Alnmouth (a great unspoilt bit of coastline in NE England) so it's not out of the question as long as it's not windy. I know it was a warm Easter but I guess we cld keep fingers crossed. When does the weather start warming up reliably in Majorca - does anyone know?

We went to Alcudia & we had ds with us, it is lovely & very child friendly with lovely beaches.

triplets · 22/04/2007 18:26

Hex,
Will get on here later and give you more info, busy atm. In the meantime look at PuertoPollensa.com, really good site, click on agents, rentals, or look directly at properties in specific area, ie pine walk, south beach, etc. Do you want an appt, how many of you? I know a fab house!

triplets · 22/04/2007 18:27

Me again, the temp out there now is in the early 20`s, we have been in Feb and sunbathed!

princessCROComel · 22/04/2007 18:29

Cala d'or is lovely. W've been in May for last 2 years with different people staying in large villas. Stayed In Cala Egos first year and Cala d'or last year. We were just outside the town by the marina.

Wilkie · 22/04/2007 18:30

Cala D'or is beautiful with a gorgeous cove. I've been there twice.

Fairly quiet with mainly restaurants rather than bars.

princessCROComel · 22/04/2007 18:30

We went with solmar villas BTW. Dh family pay so it works out well for us.

hex · 22/04/2007 20:17

there's me, dh and 2 dds. At the time we'd go they'd be 7 and nearly 3. What the house triplets?

Also, Thanks to those who've mentioned Cala d'or. Is it more touristy? Any villa recommendations?

Hi,
We stayed two years ago in part of a house, we had the ground floor and it was huge! We rented it thru Pollensa Properties.com Theres is a very easy site and their prices are good. The site for rentals is split into areas, we stayed in Caan Aleix, groundfloor in the Pinewalk area. Apart from the restaurant next door which rattled a few plates late at night, it was perfect. There are two huge bedrooms, plus an annexe ensuite in the garden! Sitting room and large kitchen and three bathrooms! The best part was having a very safe garden for the kids, so it was lovely having b/fast out there. Its on the Formentor road in the centre, brilliant for shops, restaurants etc, and the best part for us was just slipping out of the front door, barefoot, across the road onto the beach! Pollensa is so safe, we used to leave all the beachgear on the beach and pop back for lunch. Its only a mins walk from Tangos, my favourite restaurant! We have been going since 1987 and love it just as much now! We used to own an apt in Pinaret, there are several on the site for rent, thats a nice area to stay in. Dont stay too far around the Pine Walk, it can be too much of a walk with little ones, don`t stay in Bellauba, Llenaire, or Gommar for the same reasons. Hope that helps!

hex · 23/04/2007 13:29

thanks triplets - will look it up

www.solmarvillas.com website is quite good and do lots of villas in Cala d'or. We booked both ours with them. They'd be too big for what you need though.
The first one was called Punta des port 13, then the next one was Casa Sebastiana.
