Hi, desperate for some sun and have some cheap long haul flights to use (airline staff)! Has anyone been to RAK? Would you recommend it for a sun and pool holiday and if so, which hotels are nice?

Thanks x

Just realised my predictive text is short. Ras Al Khaimah I meant!

Also RAK Hilton. Nice hotel nice beach but we were bored to tears.

teaortequila23 · 20/11/2017 18:12

Rak is a nice place to go if you don’t plan on going out much it’s a quiet family city really but if you just want to be by the pool it’s perfect it has good places to eat also.

Austentatious · 20/11/2017 18:17

Yes, Waldorf Astoria and would like to go back to their new desert one. As long as you adjust expectations and don't want to do anything outside the hotel, its luxury on a relative budget. Literally nothing but cranes and tile factories outside.

PeasAndHarmony · 20/11/2017 18:47

We are just planning to flop round the pool for 5 days do not worried about needing things to do.

If we do leave the hotel, are there any local cafes or restaurants or will we be confined to the hotel for all our meals?

Yes, its dull as ditchwater.

KalaLaka · 20/11/2017 18:53

You should look up the laws too. Probably no kissing, hand holding, revealing clothes outside the hotel, etc.Don't get stung like lots of tourists to Dubai.

PeasAndHarmony · 20/11/2017 20:35

Thanks all, completely get the need to be sensitive to local values/ laws (used to work in Dubai).

There's a crappy strip mall near the Waldorf where some people went who weren't on full board - think Pizza Hut type places. The WAstoria desert looks like the only place with stuff to do - falconry, desert walks, horse riding etc. For what you want, it's a good call - the Waldorf is very very nice indeed

Le meridian al aqah was lovely for an all inclusive trip. You would need to do dine all around package so as not to get bored of buffet food.

SoYouBetterRun · 22/11/2017 09:45

Meridien al aqah is fab. In Fujairah. Here’s a copy of the page on the other emirates from the new Abu Dhabi tourist guide...
