Your recommendations please. DH would like it to be near or in Times Square (I've never been before). Somewhere really rather lovely but not too overpriced!

I can recommend the Algonquin - it's about 10 min walk from times square. The rooms aren't massive (but I don't think many are in NY) but its very comfortable and the staff are very nice

I stayed atthe pensylvaniahotel 4 years ao - isnt posh, but was clean and comfortable, and literally across the road from maddison sqaure gardens so fab location wise!!!

In and around Times Square are very touristy and very over-priced compared to rest of Manhattan. We like the Roosevelt which is by Grand Central Station and a couple of blocks walk from Times Square - book through Hotels.com

First time i went i stayed in the raddison Lexington on lexington ave,it was a few blocks from times square but was lovely and reasonably priced.
We were there in feb and stayed at the New York Palace and the rooms were quite big and very posh, but it was quite expensive so it depends what you want to pay really.
If we went back i wouldnt stay in times square itself its really really busy and noisy.
If you do want to stay there however my dp has stayed in the marriott times square and said that was really nice and its just off times square.
Hope this helps

hi saythatagain,
Times Square is very very busy (and noisy!) but it is central and fun. I've stayed at the Avalon Hotel which is very close to the Empire State Building and very nice - rooms are spacious and continental breakfast is included.
