Rovaniemi, LAPLAND to visit Santa?

Has anyone been to Santa Claus world at Rovaniemi in Lapland to visit Santa? I’m thinking of going with my son for a day, but it’s F-ing expensive so I wanted to find out if it would be a really magical experience or if it’s actually quite tacky?

I went some years ago on the day trip. It was manic, far too rushed, crammed. Not worth the money.

A few years after that we went to Saariselka on an Esprit short break - totally different kettle of fish, we had a great time, much better. The Santa experience much better organised.

Both are expensive options of course, but in terms of money well spent, Saariselka for a 2 or 3 night break wins.(we stayed at the Hotel Reikonlinna)
