Costa de la Luz - Anyone been ??

Anyone been to Costa de la Luz - Spain ?? Thinking of going but the word 'Costa' conjures up union jack shorts (sorry if you own some!), even though I know its the least developed of the costas. We usually go to more out of the way places - but this villa looks tempting in Canos de Meca. Any views anyone - what's near to visit etc. Have ds (almost 4) to think of too !

GO! It's beautiful, nothing like the Costa del Sol further West (with Torremolinos etc). I went when I was living in Seville, some years ago. I guess it may have changed a bit but it was SO beautiful and I'd love to go back. Beautiful beaches, small towns with loads of character and hardly any british tourists at that time. We stayed in Conil but then travelled along the coast to Zahara de los atunes and Tarifa, all which I'd recommend.

Some resorts are 'purpose built' with just big hotels and no character, make sure you are close to one of the villages. Very windy beaches - popular for windsurfers (atlantic not the med). Not much to visit close by, Seville possibly, but your son will love the beaches.

Hi - we were there in June and it is really beautiful and not too touristy at all. Never saw a pair of union jack shorts the whole time we were there.
The villages are very beautiful, but there isn´t really a lot to do. If your son is happy in the pool or on the beach that shouldn´t be a problem. We did go to Gibraltar for the day which was o.k. DD loved seeing the apes, but be prepared to queue at the border if you drive over.
The one advantage of the wind is that it cools things down a bit. In June it was really too hot in the afternoons to do anything.

We went there one March. We had windy, but pleasant weather. We stayed in El Puerto de Santa Maria, which I would not recommend as it's basically a fishing port, and not a picturesque one at that. We drove down to Conil, and Zahara de los atunes. Both looked basically unspoiled. We also drove to some beautiful hill top towns, which felt remote and intensely Spanish. You might also like a day in Cadiz - grotty, but it feels like a time capsule from the Middle Ages. Seville was beautiful and lively.

Try and fly into Gibralter - we should have done as the transfer to our hotel was a nightmare. Look at distances.
