Food poisoning outbreak

I’ve posted this in Shorthaul too, please excuse the double post but desperate for traffic!

We’re due to go away on a package holiday this weekend. According to trip advisor reviews there has been a serious outbreak of food poisoning in our hotel (leading to hospitalisation in some cases).

The tour operator verbally confirmed this to us, however they are now claiming the source was outside of the hotel. Regardless, it is clearly an ongoing problem and a serious one. This hotel has been notorious in past seasons and it would appear the issue has not been resolved.

We do not wish to go and run the gauntlets! Tour operator are refusing to do anything. Does anyone have any experience of this? We have insurance which should cover if there is an outbreak of food poisoning at the accommodation, but how could we prove this????

Any advice much appreciated!

Just switch to to a different hotel.
Is it Dominican Republic?

Why book a hotel notorious for infection in the first place?!

I don’t think you can do anything about it unless it is shut down

No way would I book somewhere notorious for infection. I once got food poisoning in Morocco it was horrendous, worst holiday I ever had. No way would I knowingly expose myself to that

naymechaynger · 17/10/2017 16:37

I didn’t know when I booked it.

That’s my point 2014, I don’t want to expose ourselves to it! Hence wondered if anyone had any advice.......

Just out of interest 2014, why do you ask if it's Dominican ? I had horrific food poisoning at a hotel there a few years back. Never again

2014newme · 17/10/2017 16:49

Because Dominican Republic is renowned for food poisoning!

naymechaynger · 17/10/2017 17:00

It’s Turkey 2014

Have you spoken to the travel agent about swapping to a different hotel?

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 17/10/2017 17:12

Wish I'd known that before I went !!!

I think it's common knowledge. People still go there because it's cheaper than the rest of the Caribbean. To be fair the food poisoning has got a lot better there. It was badly affecting tourism so they have tried to tackle it.
