Xmas-Lapland

We are considering a trip to see Santa this Xmas. We would like to go for 2 nights and the cheapest I can get for a family of 4 is almost £4000. This would involve flying from Manchester to Rovaniemi and staying in a local hotel and doing the Santa activities. Has anyone managed to do a comparable trip but cheaper? We don't fancy packing it all in to a day trip. (But at £4,000 Center Packs Winter Wonderland has become awfully appealing!)

We went to Ruka with Crystal on a ski holiday. I then booked santa, huskies and other stuff with the local tourist board. We did a week over Xmas

What dates are you travelling and do you need to depart from Manchester?

We are mostly flexible through December and can fly from most regions. I'll check Ruka now.

I went a few years ago with Santa Trips. I can't remember the cost but it was great, and cheaper than a lot I looked at. They gave me a single parent discount too.

Just found direct flights with Norwegian Air to Rovaniemi from London-Gatwick out on Weds 6th and back on 8th for £596.20 That would give you one full day (7th) and the afternoon/evening of the day you arrive (flight back on 8th is at 11.50am).

You could stay here for 2 nights for £636.

You will easily be able to organise your own trip to the Santa Claus Village and reindeer and husky rides (if you book very soon).

Look at the local tourist office, they will speak excellent English I expect, they can usually put you on the exact same trip!

Hi Twig. I found the same flights last night just hoping we can get off work for those date. Will sort by tonight.
Is there any other airline flying direct to Lapland? Most seem to go via Helsinki.

I don't think there are any other direct scheduled flights to Finnish Lapland although Monarch were due to be flying there this winter...

Have a look at Santaclaustrips - they do free or reduced price children's places. I think they go to Saariselka rather than Rovaniemi.
We did Saariselka and it is not as commercialised but had a great time. You can go for 3/4 days and there is a choice of activities and hotels.

That's who we went with, to Saariselka. I loved that it wasn't commercial. All the log fires and the free toboggan run were magical.
