Uk passport renewal-photo

I’m about to renew my uk passport. I just need the photos. Thing is I was clearing out today and found 2 passport photos left over from the 4 I had taken last time ie 10 years old. Do you think I could use these? My appearance really hasn’t changed, I even have the same haircut (I’ve changed hair over the years but coincidentally have the same cut now). Would they notice it’s the same photo and reject it do you think?

I didn't think you needed to send a new photo if your appearance hadn't changed.

Ignore me, I'm completely wrong.
You do need new photos, and they need to be taken in the last month.

Don't be so cheap. Get new photos.

youngestisapsycho · 28/09/2017 20:48

You can take your own and upload on the online application...

Your passport photos need to have been taken within the last month,

By the time your new passport runs out, your photos will be 20 years old. Very few people look the same at say, 40 as they did at 20. Also, don't you have to send your expired passport in when you apply for a renewal? I think they might notice if you sent the same photo.
You can take your own photo, upload it to paspic and have it printed and posted within a day. Costs about £6.

Ok, I need a new photo. Didn’t realise I could take it myself, I’ll look into that. It’s just a hassle having to go somewhere to have it taken as there isn’t anywhere near me.

The reason for getting the new passport is so the pic is up to date surely?

Have you checked your local post office? A lot do pics without a booth so always ask.

But yeah you can do it yourself as long as it meets their regs that you will see on their site.

We've recently renewed our passports. The requirements regarding head size, lighting, background etc are really strict so I decided it wasn't worth trying to take our own photos for the sake of a fiver each.

We had ours done in a photo booth in Sainsbury's but they are usually also in main post offices etc or I think you can get them done in places like Timpsons. There probably is somewhere locally you can have them done if you google.

The post office is a quick and easy option, and they will check the photo meets the incredibly strict requirements for biometrics.
