Hi all, just looking for recommendations really. We've got just over two weeks, all booked up in Kenya for 2nd week - Masai Mara, Diani & chale island. Looking for ideas for first week.

We land in Nairobi but not sure if we should just grab a flight onto somewhere (Uganda/Tanzania/Zanzibar) or stay in Kenya & do Rift Valley or lake Victoria or somewhere else.

Would love to hear ppls suggestions

Why not visit the gorillas in Uganda or Rwanda it's an amazing experience.

I visit Kenya often - you could do one night at Giraffe Manor, its fabulous, and in the morning you could nip just around the corner to the David Shelrick wildlife trust and see the elephants. Oh and if you didn't fancy at night at Giraffe Manor you could visit the education centre as a day guest and even then you could nip around to David Shelrick.

Or you could go to one of the many small reserves just a couple of hours outside on Nairobi and fill the rest of the days with local stuff. One good day out is a day at the races.

I see you have Mombassa on your itinerary but you could also have nipped down there on the new high speed train that takes about 4 hours.

Zanzibar is a good place to go if you would like to more about the history of Slavery but you could also go into Tanzania and get to Bagamoyo which has the saddest of histories before crossing to Zanzibar by sea. I think though you have to go back to Dar for that.

If you do stay in Nairobi if you adopt an elephant at Sheldrick's you can visit at 5pm to see the elephants being put to bed in their enclosure and chat to their keeper. The giraffes are amazing and the Karen Blixhen museum and the Bomas are interesting. All located in Karen you just need to hire a driver we had lunch at Utumunduru (sp)

We also did a day trip to Joy Adamson's house and hiked in Hell's Gate which was organised by Urban Adventures.
