Manchester - what is there to do around the Old Trafford area (near the Lowry centre and the like)?

we'll be going up for the FA cup semi final soon and we're staying the night (because the FA helpfully scheduled the game at 4pm on a Sunday and all our fans have to come up from London via car as the trains aren't running on that Sunday grrr)

so, is there much to do around there? I see it is near the Lowry centre - is that worth taking the kids to?

thanks for the tip GDG - think we have free parking where we are staying so I can leave the car and jump on the tram

Hit Rusholme then - you cannot beat it!

Or, you could go to Shimla Pinks in town - that's nice too but Rusholme is more, er, authentic!

best curry houses are rusholme and fallowfield!

haven't been there for years and I've only ever been there for work (pre-kids) so all I ever saw was Manchester Picadilly, the inside of an office and a taxi .

We are all very much looking forward to our trip!

(squonk, am trying to recall that game!)

Quite right to be proud of your team.

Anyway, I'm only joking with you! My gorgeous Grandad is a City supporter so we are always pulling each others' legs!

MrsGumby · 05/04/2007 20:28

You little minx, Gobble, but I can take it...being a City fan gives you the thickest of skins. Character building, my dad told me when he first dragged me down the streets of Moss Side to watch us getting relegated by Luton...

I just wanted to quickly nip on here and thank everyone for their recommendations. We had the most fabulous time.

Were completely overwhelmed by how everyone was SO friendly - people actually stopped us in the street to talk to us (as the kids weren't back at school and ds was kitted in his chelsea kit - I guess the Manc schools must have gone back last week!). A shopkeeper let us use his loo when ds was desperate (just unheard of in London!) and people went out of their way to help us.

We had a lovely meal in the Pizza Express in Salford (with a children's menu - have never seen that at a PE, must have been going to the wrong ones!) and we have vowed to go back for another weekend we enjoyed it so much.
