Really don't know what to do we booked this holiday in January, just finished paying for it a couple of weeks ago.we are due to go in 6 wks, looking forward to a well deserved break after we lost a baby before xmas,my mam died last year and had a HUGE fall out with my alcoholic father so we really need a chilled out holiday.we even upgraded to an all-inclusive jaccuzzi(sp)suite just to make it extra special,it has cost us £1800.
Just had a letter off them saying that work started recently to add another hotel to our all-inclusive complex but that they expect most of the structural work to be finished by the time we arrive and that it will be mainly internal work left to do on the new building.
am i just being picky?or is this unacceptable?they have left it until we have paid to let us know. should i complain, ask to be moved or just hope it is ok when we get there and that most of the work is complete and won't effect us? what if it isn't and there are delays and i end up on a building site-with a jacuzzi suite thrown in for good measure??!!

I would write to them and ask for written assurance that if you are not happy when you get there that they will undertake to move you to accommodation of equal standard of the one you paid for.

Problem is CARMENERE it is a First Choice Holiday village, they only have 4 or 5 all over the world so there wouldn't be another hotel locally with the same ammenities, they have swimming academy, drama school, football coaching, highropes, trampolining etc,as well as the usualkids clubs and entertainment hence why we have paid alot of money for this holiday.we went to the one in majorca and it was fab. so,as snobby as this sounds we would have to settle for something of a lower standard if the worst happened so i really want it sorted before we go if poss.

Oh I see,
Well all I can say is that last year when we went on a holiday and they warned us that the hotel was being expanded and that there were building works beside it we diddn't actually notice anything at all. I'm not sure what you can do though, maybe ask to be moved to a different First Choice village, back to the one in Majorca?

I would kick off as surely they would have known that the place was being built before you booked in January. Also buy informing you in writing and you don't do anything then it is as if you accept it. If it a village ask to be put as far away as possible from the work or to be given more info e.g where in the village is the work ..near which buildings / facilities . If any facilities are out of use or will have disturbance e.g the pool , playground. Ask what internal work will be done is it just painting or will they be banging/ drilling and what times the workers will be working. When you get all this info then you can decide a bit more. If they give you teh impression that it will all be minor then tell them that if it is not as they say when you get there you will expect HUGE compensation!

Register protest now as if you don't and you're not happy when you get there they will say that they informed you, thereby altering the terms of your contract, and you accepted it. Make it clear that if it affects your enjoyment of your holiday you will expect compensation.

thanks for the advice,i'm going to call them after the weekend, have a good go at them about it and perhaps ask to be transferred to one of the other Holiday Villages.they have a one in spain, lanzarote, majorca, egypt and dominican republic just don't know if they'll be able to transfer us at this short notice as i'm sure they'll be pretty full by now.

This happened to us one year. We changed as I didn't fancy being covered in dust or hearing banging and drilling all day. They tried to say it was minimal work but we ended up staying somewhere else in the resort and passed one day and it was like a building site
