Lapland - any other companies than Canterbury Travel?

I would absolutely love to take DS to Lapland this year. The only travel company I've heard recommended for Lapland trips is Canterbury Travel, and, even in early September, they're largely booked for 2 or 3 night trips from Gatwick over a weekend (DS is in school).

Any other recommendations please for something similar? I'm looking for a really authentic weekend trip with huskies, reindeer, the works (3 nights, preferably) for just me and him, flying out of Gatwick.

Try Jet 2, I went with them and they were great. I went over Christmas last year 22nd - 27th December- it was magical :-)

The crazy reindeer hotel was lovely (sounds a bit mad but is lovely)

Thomson do them too!

WellTidy · 06/09/2017 11:50

Thanks, but Jet2 don't go from Gatwick, and Thomson don't have anything over a weekend, just Sunday and Wednesday departures (maybe I have left it late to book).

do you have to go from Gatwick OP?

Jet2?

Where in Lapland exactly are you going? I (randomly) checked out "Christmas in Lapland" and landed on a page by the Rajamaa family company, and from the map I'd guess one flies to Rovaniemi (the city) and goes north from there (presumably by bus?). An old article from 2016 in the Telegraph says Norwegian airline Norwegian flies to that destination from the UK. Noticed there was a contact box on the Rajamaa website, guess you could always write and ask. Isn't three nights a little bit on the short side?

WellTidy · 06/09/2017 12:49

I would like a package deal, really. Something that includes excursions and transfers, to make it easier. I think 3 nights would be plenty as lots of the trips seem to be for that kind of time. I don't want to go for Christmas, just a weekend in December (preferably leaving on Thursday 15th or Friday 16th December).

Gatwick or London City are the best airports for us. I am trying to avoid Stansted, and Luton is just too far.

Transun might be worth a try. They aren't cheap, but we had an unforgettably fabulous short break with them in February 2015. We did all sorts of snowy activities and even got to see the northern lights.

The hotel wasn't luxurious, but Transun know how to look after their customers.

Have a look at Activities Abroad-Saw them in article in National geographic Traveller magazine and it looks amazing. Think we are planning on going next year. They aren't cheap either (not that any of them are!) but whats included sounds fantastic.

WellTidy · 08/09/2017 14:00

Thank you both. I think I've left it too late as 3 night breaks with flights from Gatwick that encompass a weekend are all sold out. I will have to be better organised next year.

Santas lapland look good. I'm already gathering quotes for next year apparently all companies will have the released by mid October this year. It's worth getting on the mailing lists. Jet2 go from stanstead. Thomson only ever do those departure days from what I've seen (I've been looking for a long time dh still says no 😂😭).

WreckTangled · 09/09/2017 18:39

I can't see that jet2 do lapland holidays at all actually Confused also not santas lapland it's Santa Claus trips. There's so many out there! They're really helpful though if you email them they will send you a selection of personalised quotes
