Child free holiday - Mexico or Dominican Republic?

Planning summer 2018 holiday without children. Looking at around 11 nights and was almost dead set on DR but general consensus online and from friends seems to prefer Mexico.

Has anyone been to Sensatori Punta Cana as this is is where we'd been looking at in DR or can give us any Mexico recommendations?

Thank you!

Does it have to be AI?
There are some gorgeous beach front Boutique hotels in Tulum, about 90 minutes from Cancun.
It's a slightly hippy but upmarket town with a great beach and lots of really good places to visit nearby.

We had been wanting AI but I just can't seem to settle on a resort - every time I look at photos on TripAdvisor / read reviews we end up back at square one.

Will check that out in Tulum - a friend lived and worked out that way for a year and loved it. Thanks!

We went to Excellence Playa Mujeres this Spring and it was one of the best all-inclusives we've been to in the Caribbean. It's about 20 minutes outside of Cancun so very easy to get to from the airport. We enjoyed it so much that we're going back to their sister hotel next door, The Finest, with our DS for Christmas!

Dr is about to be hit by hurricane and may not be fully operational by next year.
We like tulum area and have been several times to all inclusive there
