Somewhere warm in February?

Margomyhero · 02/09/2017 20:29

Any suggestions for a trip to somewhere warm/hot in February?

It will be my 50th birthday and I fancy a relaxing break somewhere.

Just me and DH.

I don't want Egypt or Dubai.

The Caribbean? Lots of choice and the flight time isn't too bad...

georgedawes · 02/09/2017 22:44

Canaries

Margomyhero · 02/09/2017 23:10

Thanks for suggestions.

I don't know much about the Caribbean - any particular island you'd recommend?

Canaries - I do like Tenerife and Lanzarote- but we've been many times. Often in Feb half term and the weather wasn't always great. However it's my back up.

Just booked Barbados for January cheap as chips. Did lanzarote in Feb half term and weather was awful. Every day windy and not very warm.

Mexico - fantastic choice of hotels, and great day trips and history

Late-DH and I went to St Lucia and Antigua a few times in February - it was just amazing to have winter sun, and we have such a busy January at work having that down time afterwards was fantastic. Then when we got back spring wasn't far off.
I'd totally recommend it.

We went straddling Feb half term (so either the tue/wed of the week before and returning a week later in half term or the wed/thu of half term returning a week later) the difference in prices was unreal!
The first year we went DH had bid for a week at a 2 bed apartment in Marigot Bay, St Lucia at a charity auction which we could take anytime subject to availability. I looked at flight prices for us and the kids for half term week, £1,800 each = £7,200 Shock - not happening. The Tue-Tue option was £600 each. We made other arrangements for the kids and went with SIL & BIL!
So avoid half term if you can.

We just loved the holidays we had in Antigua, went twice after the St Lucia holiday and would definitely have gone again this year if he'd lived.

Cape Verde.

There's not much to do there so you'd get a relaxing holiday.

DopeOnARope · 03/09/2017 09:40

How long are you going for?

I wouldn't go to Vietnam for a one week break, given the flight length and time difference.

We went to the Canaries in Feb and it rained for half the week.

mummymeister · 03/09/2017 09:41

Belize, Florida Keys. depends what you mean by warm I guess. definitely a long haul flight if you want some weather to go swimming in etc.

DopeOnARope · 03/09/2017 09:41

Oh sorry, but I see this is in Longhaul so you are maybe up for a long flight.

Mauritius? (Not as long as Vietnam)

Sri Lanka

We've been to Florida (Orlando) in February half term. Weather can be variable. It's always been dry and it's normally low to mid 20s but you do have the odd day where it's mid teens too, and you sometimes need a hoodie in the early morning or evenings. On the whole it's been good though. I assume the Caribbean will be similar temperatures. We are off to Antigua this February half term.

Been to Canaries then too. Similar in that the temperature varies from high teens to mid twenties, but some odd days of lower mid teens. Hoodies needed for early mornings and evenings.

Thanks all. Plenty to go at there. I'll have a browse at a few of those ideas.

I went to Cuba middle of Feb for my honeymoon. Absolutely amazing. Did 3 days in Havana and the rest in varadero

Margomyhero · 03/09/2017 15:51

Cuba is looking tempting.

I need to do some research.
