On holiday at the moment, and have been bitten/ stung by mosquitoes, midges, wasps, horseflies. Can anyone recommend a destination for next year with minimal pests please?

Where did you go? I was in Spain and for the first time on holiday had to wear repellent during the day due to mosquito bites! Didn't have that problem in Turkey or Kenya, tunisia or the Dominican republic!

Italy, Austria, Germany... different pests each destination!

God Italy is hideous

Just came home from lake Garda, I've got about 10 bites but another guest has almost 60 and stopped going out in the evening Sad

then you need to wear decent repellent because wherever you go there will be things that bite and sting. boots do a 50% deet spray and this is what we use. not all the time on every holiday but it is really useful if you are going on a woodland walk etc. we also use boots suncream with insect repellent in it and none of us get bitten now.

Yes, have that, but hasn't worked anywhere we've been this year. Plus I've had blistering reactions to the mosquitoes and horseflies, so was hoping to find somewhere they're less aggressive!

The deet didn't work for me either
I had 55%

None of us got any bites last year in Cyprus. We have been to Turkey twice in the last year and neither time got any boites either (but it does differ wildly from area to area).

Dubai - nothing at all. I was so happy.

Lanzarote. Have been two years in a row and no bites.

Just got back from two weeks in Greece with a total of two bites. I wondered if there were less mosquitos this year until I saw all the people at the airport covered in bites from top to toe.
You need to swap your protection. We use Mosqui-Go plug in which kills them if they get in your room, and Calypso after sun with repellant seems to stop the biting. Two years on the trot we have successfully used these products.

Unfortunately the biting insects seem to be in most hot countries. When I go to the Philippines, I take plenty of repellent and fly spray.
Before turning in for the night, I make sure the windows are closed, and give the room a good dose of fly spray. Then make a quick exit to the bar while the spray does its job. Can get through 10/12 cans of fly spray on a three week stay. Plus a few bottles of repellent......

The trouble is that they like some people more than others. When we were in costa Blanca this year I got around 20 bites, Ds was in second place with around 12, they moved to dh once Ds and I started putting repellant on and Dd had not one bite despite not using repellant at all. I must just attract them more than the others which is a pain

dementedpixie · 03/09/2017 11:10

Aftersun with repellant would have been no good to me as I was getting bitten during the day so had to put repellant on as well as suncream

bitofabelly · 03/09/2017 20:31

Incognito natural repellent..I swear by it

poisonedbypen · 03/09/2017 20:33

Lanzarote. Have been many times with no bites for anyone in the family. There is no standing water on the island so nowhere for mozzies to breed.

I got eaten alive in the Veneto... drove up round the coast to Croatia and there were hardly any!
