Hi, I'm off in July with 9yo and 5mth old. Not sure who to fly with tho - can't decide between BA, Qantas, Sing, Thai or Emirates (who we usually fly with). What made u choose Sing?

mum20 · 03/04/2007 17:40

Going with singapore airlines on the 9th april with 22month old (2 in may). Singapore was recommended - apparently best with kids!

I've just got back from Aus, we flew with Singapore and they were fab. Really helpful, especially as I was on my own with dd 5 months. We did lots of internal flights with Qantas when I was there and they were rubbish. Have fun!

We'll be going in June (emigrating). We flew with Singapore in November - 2 adults and 3 kids. I intend to fly with them again; the service is excellent and their reputation as being good with kids is well deserved. The entertaiment system is fantastic, food is good and they always bring the kids' meals first. They usually come out best on price as well.

Sunny, if you have a permenant resident visa you are entitled to more baggage allowance.

sunnydelight · 04/04/2007 21:29

Thanks sandcastles. Am banking on that

We are off to Tassie, Queensland and Melbourne to visit family (show off the new arrival). Hope you like Perth Hithcock - I think it's a great city. But be warned, it is a long way from anywhere else in Oz.

sunnydelight · 06/04/2007 17:50

Yes hitchcock, we did a reccie in November. DH and I met in Sydney many years ago and lived there together for a year, so we just wanted to have a sanity check with our three kids before we went for it and emigrated!!! Singapore airlines are fab. I would also highly recommend the Marina Mandarin hotel in Singapore if you end up stopping over. The rooftop pool (and bar!) was stunning and DD (3 at the time) cried for days when we came home because she "wanted to go back and live in the hotel"!

singapore skycots are fine - dd1 had one both trips to Aus.

can't remember what the food was like - can't have been horrid or I would have remembered that. Dd1 was a babe first flight and then toddler second flight.

Singapore - if you have stopover - we stayed at Swissotel Merchant court - fabulous. On the river for bumboat rides, a short walk to metro station for train. Dd1 was almost 2 when we stopped over. We went to the Zoo one day, sentosa Island another day, wandered around the shops, visited parks, ate out every night - lots of fab places to eat out opposite hotel in Merchant court area - undergoing major renovations when we were there - so probably even more places to eat out within walking distance. Spent a lot of time chilling out in the pool - day spa for you to chill out in too. Hotel also had a shuttle bus that took you to raffles hotel and some shopping centres.

Sorry hitchcock, haven't been around for a while. No ideas for Perth I'm afraid as we went to Sydney. Our kids were 13, 7 and 3 when we went. We were planning on taking them to the zoo in Singapore (had been there before and it's really good) and over to Sentosa island (lots of stuff there and apparantly the water fountain show at twilight is a must see), however in the end every time we suggested either they said they just liked just wandering around. If you fly Singapore you can get the tourist bus around really cheaply, hopping on and off at will. We went to an amazing Hindu temple, ate at lots of food courts and did some shopping but as your kids are younger the zoo/Sentosa would probably be better. Nearly forgot - Singapore slings in the courtyard at Raffles was a high point (with non-alcoholic versions that looked just the same for the kids). Beware the chocolate on singapore airlines would be my top tip! The food was fine for kids, but every meal came with far too much chocolate - DS2 was very nearly sick at one stage which did not impress me (he hid behind his brother so I didn't realise just how much he had had!!!).
