I might be going on a conference to Nashville. I have never left Europe befire (didin't fly till I was 30!) and am REALLY excited. I know i have to attend session etc, but wondered if anyone could give me tips on what to do, eating alone etc. I love C&W music in a really sad way!

I can help you with this one!

When is the conference and where exactly? Do you know what hotel you'll be in? Will you have free time? Will you rent a car?

Its in July at the Vanderbilt University. I seem to have some idea (maybe too muh V/films) that every one will be trying to shoot me!

Well, good news is that Vanderbilt is in a good central location. It will be beyond hot in July in Nashville, so be prepared.

Don't worry about getting shot - in fact, you may be disapointed at how 'normal' everything is.

Any other details you can provide about your trip/interests would be helpful. I can then give it some thought, and will write more later.

I would like to see something related to C&W music. There is a night out at the country and western museaum, but I love Johnny Cash, and Dolly Paton! And I would like nice places to eat alone. And places to but lovely gifts for my DS's and DH. thank you for your help!

EB, I am hijacking this to say that we have just at last heard back from our friend that I wanted to introduce you to ...

... but I think you're away now?

(I will email you too, but this is just in case you don't have access to your normal address.)

I went to Nashville when DS had a football tournament there.

TBH, we didn't find much in the downtown area. There are a couple of streets where they have a few C&W themed bars and souvenir shops.

The key thing for most tourists is the Grand Ole Opry, which is up near the airport. We ate in the Rainforest Cafe in the Opry Mills mall nextdoor.
