We are going to Cape Town in June from Australia. We have about 4 months before we have to be home. Has anyone travelled with their children to Tanzanier/Zanzibar/Kenya?
I have 2 daughters,7+8 and think it's would be a fantastic oportunity to do a bit of traveling. Would love to hear anyones experience. Thank you Tilba x

Tilba we have lived in Tanzania and spent time in Zanzibar and should be moving to Kenya before the year is out, we have 2, almost 3 dc, 2 brought up so far in Africa. All three places are fabulous countries, very welcoming to people travelling with kids and at that age the children will really enjoy the national parks and the outdoor life as well as the fabulous beaches, snorkelling etc.

Go for it! You will have a wonderful time, but then I am a bit biased

Tilba because we lived in Tz and then Cameroon while they were small they gained a level of immunity to Malaria, so we didn't give them any anti-malarials. But for you, i recommend Malarone for the girls and yourself, it is the most effective even though it is a bit pricey. It is essential for the coastal regions and most of Tz, but not so necessary for the highlands of Kenya. As I'm sure you know, long sleeves and trousers from dusk to dawn with mossie repellent is essential and most places you stay in nowadays have good mosquito nets in the rooms.

HTH and do please feel free to ask any other questions about the region, always happy to help.

Thank you so much Cameroonmama! Will explore malarone....
I think the only thing I am stressed about is the girls getting sick during the 4 months.
We have just come back from 8 1/2 months of camping around Australia. Totally brilliant.
Only had 2 stressful moments...bush tick fever with the 6 year old...500ks from nearest Doctor and uncontrolled asthma with 7 year old and it took over a day to get to an aboriginal clinic as roads shocking.

Times like that you start feeling iresponsible and imagining mothers in the playground just rolling their eyes...!!!!

Wow Tilba, what an adventure! We are quite envious, you will easily be prepared for any bush adventures in East Africa!

Imagine what experiences you are giving your kids, sometimes here in the UK I don't even begin to explain what our African lives and adventures have entailed, I'm sure some people would think I was bonkers the things we have done
