Has anyone any suggestions for a 2/3 day break in Lapland/ santa adventure, it has to be over a particular weekend in December we are tied with dates- other than that where is best place to go for the snowmobile/ santa experience for young kids.
The only holiday companies offering packages from our airports are not suitable for our dates
Happy to do independently- but want to get it right!!

Have you looked flights through Norwegian? They fly directly to Rovaniemi. Otherwise you'd have to fly to Helsinki and change there to interconnecting flight to Lapland ( I can't remember where else in Lapland you can fly rather than just Rovaniemi).

Rovaniemi is the capital town of Lapland but it's quite small and cute. It has both Santa Claus Village and Santa Park. Santa Claus Village has shopping, reindeer rides, husky park and many other things to do. We really enjoyed it, spent a total seven hours there.

Santa Park is a different kind of experience, it's a vast underground grotto with ice room, little adventure train and elf work shops.

We did travel with Thomson but went to Santa Claus Village on our "day off". It wasn't included in the Thomson activities, probably because then all the families would have realised that doing the reindeer and husky rides were cheaper there than through Thomson's own reps!

That is so helpful- exactly the kind on insight I need!!!
Is that the main town/ resort and has its own airport?

Hi Heart, sorry for the delayed response! Yes, Rovaniemi is the largest town in Lapland and has an airport (about 20-30 mins drive away).

Flying Norwegian to Rovaniemi is probably the best idea. The santa-claus village there is great (been lots of times) and the husky sled ride was reasonably priced and fun. You can get a delicious reindeer burger in one of the restaurants too, even my brother's vegetarian GF liked it Grin

Also there's a really interesting Sami (laplander) museum in the town if you fancy doing something non-christmassy too.
