Packing for safari this month - help!

A week away from our holiday in South Africa (Pilanesberg + Cape town) & I'm having a packing panic... I know some of you have been on safari as I've had really good advice on here re destinations, now I'm after your help with packing!

I foolishly googled 'what to wear on safari' and everywhere it says don't wear jeans, get zip off trousers & don't wear blue because it attracts tsetse files...

So having looked at our selection of clothes today, I discover that DH has nothing but jeans and blue or black work trousers, DS has only 1 pair of grey cotton twill trousers, DD has only ripped jeans or skinnies, all blue... most of her tops are white or bright colours...

Do I need an emergency trip to Primark at the weekend?? help - advice needed!

Jeans are fine. I'd wear jeans, tshirt and hoodie/sweatshirt. It'll be cold, especially on the early morning drives and given that it's winter. Pilansberg is great, but there is a bit of a difference between a game drive in the pilansberg and a safari in Kenya if that's the sort of thing you've been googling.

The colour of your clothes definitely won't matter in the pilansberg!

I read the same things before we went earlier this year, ran out and bought loads of neutral colours. The other couple in our jeep wore navy and were fine - no increase in flies at all! We wore zip off trousers which were a godsend because it was chilly at 6am but boiling by the time we were heading back at 9.30, but it was still summer - not sure what the temps are like now so you may be fine just in trousers. So long as you're in solid colours and not loud prints and patterns you'll be fine! Enjoy your trip

No zebra print onesies - especially if you have a limp or other mobility problem.........Grin

Jeans are fine, pilansberg is quite relaxed, no one can see your legs anyway! Are you staying at sun city? Just remember its winter here and game drives are early and trucks are open sided and windy. Bring fleeces and wind proof macs, comfy trainers.

I ripped my linen trousers on a drive through the bush, so I'd say not to wear anything too lightweight!

We're staying at Black Rhino Lodge

I've always worn shorts on safari with warm hoodies for the early morning (and maybe a blanket if it's really cold). Lots of people in chino/trekking type trousers, mostly neutral colours. Jeans are also fine but get a bit sticky when it warms up.

We did once share a safari with a lady who had an impressive collection of animal print tops and wraps - every day she came dressed in a different one - giraffe print, zebra, leopard...

We wore jeans, fleeces. Lots of layers.

LOL at the zebra print onesie!
