Finally it looks like we will have the money to be able to manage a week abroad next Summer (July). We've not been out of the UK for years so we would love some ideas for the following - we are a family of 4 and DC will be 3 and 5:

In Europe or within a 3ish hr flight
Hot!
Villa rather than hotel with a pool
Near a beach
Near to a town with a few restaurants and shops
Not too commercialised if possible.

We will have around 2.5k and could do 7-10 days

Roda in Corfu is fab if you like sandy beaches, for pebbly beaches and a harbour there's Kassiopi. Don't know too much about villas as we stay in apartments but friends of ours have a villa in Roda (they own an Ana big restaurant) Google Roda Park villa, Roda. It's up a wee Lane from the main beach road so 2 mins to shops, restaurants etc and 5 mins to the beach.

Thank you- apartment would be okay did it have a shared pool? Would you mind telling me what apartments you stayed in?

We stayed at the Valentinos apartments in Roda and booked direct. Very basic and Greek but clean. Think Jet 2 rated it 2 stars but it was perfectly fine for us. Don't care about the kitchen and bathroom tiles (very dated) as it's in a great location. Apartments have a pool view and big balconies and it's a shared pool. Quite quiet but bar can get noisy if it's busy.,2 mins walk to bars, restaurants and supermarkets by the sea and about 5 mins walk to main resort/sandy beach.
Other good apartments (on the beach) are the Makris. Or Elizabeth which are near Valentinos. Theodore and Fiona is a bit busier but has nicer sunbeds! Noisy music though.,
Hope that helps.
