Tips for visiting Cape Town

We are off to Cape Town next week, staying in the Vredehoek area, about 2 miles from V and A waterfront.

Any tips for things to do, good restaurants, what to pack- do we need a winter coat or just a rain jacket? etc

We are hiring a car and have 2 x teenagers in tow!

I live in Johannesburg, it's winter here so a bit chilly in the morning and evening, I would bring a decent wind proof mac, it's very windy in Cape Town, then you can layer a jumper under if it's cold. Bring jeans, trainers etc.
Good things to do - cable car up table mountain (it closes if its windy or cloudy so if you wake up and it's open then do it), cape point, boulders beach for penguins, red bus tour (if you don't have a car), trip out to stellenbosch and franschoek (combine with a wine tour), camps bay beach is lovely - lots of nice restaurants there. Obviously Robben island is a must do - book in advance. Kirstenbosch botanical gardens is very nice, very hilly but there is a nice tree canopy walk and restaurant.
Hout Bay is worth a stop combine with a drive up chapmans peak drive for stunning views, nice pub at the bottom - think it's called the chapmans peak hotel.
V&A waterfront has lots of restaurants, but they are touristy and expensive but if you are spending pounds you'll think it's cheap 😁

We really enjoyed the pot luck club for dinner. Also second all of rainbows suggestions. We loved franschoek and would definitely do a lunch and wine in the area. It is a brilliant city!

If you like gardening/plants go to Babylon Storen www.babylonstoren.com

Teenagers might like this: coolrunnings.capetown/index.php/home/

And if you like seafood head up the coast to strandlopers- you must book!

Ratanga junction, fantastic theme park! Granted it's been a few years since I visited but definitely worth a look if you enjoy rollercoasters.
