CAR HIRE in FRANCE - can anyone recommend a company?

We're off to France in June for a week and are looking for cheap but reliable car hire. We will be flying to Bordeaux airport and so will need to collect and drop off the car there. We will also be needing a car seat for our 21mth DS. Anyone have any recommendations? Easycar seems very expensive. Thanks

We do usually use Hertz actually. We have never gone to Bordeaux so can't comment on there specifically but have had good service from Hertz elsewhere in France. Never had any problems with the various car seats either. You can sometimes get 10% off too if you use a discount code and pay with a visa card. HTH

Went to Nice airport last year - hired a car from Hertz.

DO NOT use them!! We ended up standing, with DS (1 at the time) in the blazing hot sun for 2 hours with all our luggage and everything, waiting in queues and waiting for the cars to be driven round to the people. ALL the other car hire 'offices' seemed to be so much quieter.
Also the car seat was alright, but not in the greatest shape.. I would have expected it to be cleaned at least! Plus it wasn't in the car when we eventually got it so we had to wait another 15 minutes while we drove round (in a foreign country with a 1 year old on my LAP!!) to pick up the car seat. We couldn't walk as it was over a HUGE motorway.

It was cheaper to use Hertz, but not worth saving the extra £20 or whatever it was.

Sorry thats not really a recommendation! But more of a warning.

That sounds awful BassMama - but I can honestly say that at other airports in France(Montpellier, Carcassonne and Perpignan) and others in Spain, they are who I have found best. They always deal with the queues quickest, had best car seats etc. So I think quite honestly, it is luck of the draw. The only way you can guarantee the carseat is to take your own really.
