DH and I have been talking about where to go next year with DS who "I don't like hot" and will be 4 next summer. Where's a good place for kids, Germanic but probably not Switzerland due to the cost, in the mountains?

Kranska Gora, Slovenian Alps, just over the border from Austria? Lake Bled nearby for swimming. Great base from which to visit Austrian and Italian mountains too

Rupholding amazing family holiday

Innsbruck is a great place for 4-5 nights. It's pretty and also a good base for day trips to the mountains, Garmisch + Zugspitze + Neuschwanstein, Swarovsky World and more.

We love the South Tirol/Alto Adige - perfect mix of German and Italian! We've stayed in Merano three times now and always had a brilliant time.

Slovenia is lovely too - so unspoilt in lots of places, like something out of the Lord of the Rings!

Zell am See in Austria.

We have been skiing in St Anton, and Les.Gets, and summer in Wengen. Loved Wengen, but I see you don't want Switzerland. I would consider St Anton in summer, not sure there would be masses to do in Les Gets but Morzine is nearby and a bit bigger.
