Portals Nous, Majorca

We're off to Portals Nous (S/C apt for a week, me, DH, DD 7 and DS 5) next Saturday and having looked at online menus for various restaurants in the area I'm starting to panic that we'll only be able to afford one meal a day 😂

Can anyone recommend any reasonable but cheap places to eat, it looks as if walking to Palma Nova will be a definite option even with the DC but it'd be nice to stay in the resort at least a couple of nights!

Don't eat in the port! Sweet Jesus that was the most expensive holiday we ever had!!
I'm sure people will be along to give you better advice soon.
We ate in some lovely places but it was very expensive.

FUCK 😂 We might be taking a case of pasta'n'sauce then!

You could also try Son Caliu which is on the fringe of Palma Nova on the Portals side. There's a little place on Son Caliu beach called the Rincon which we've been to many times. Always good good there.

There's a bus to Palma Nova. I wouldn't walk it with kids.

We went in June (just me and dh) and agree prices are silly. The benefit you have is going SC as at least you can get some nibbles, tapas, drinks or whatever some days. We were in a hotel and I found it annoying HAVING to eat out all the time (due to cost).

I would recommend a couple of places up near the Marina Sales Portals hotel (15 mins walk up hill from the port). Particularly the fish restaurant next door that was reasonable price and very good. The other place was on the same side of the road about 5 mins walk away from hotel (so past fish restaurant and keep going). It was big and packed, Italian food and on the corner of a street. You won't miss it and it's not a big street.

We got the bus to Palma one afternoon and stayed till evening. Had lovely tapas there and more reasonably priced.

Have a lovely time 😊

Perhaps see if anywhere has Menu del Dia and have your main meal at lunchtime - that should be cheaper. Then you may be happy with a few tapas or nibbles in the evening. Even ham, bread, cheese, olives and crisps from the supermarket - I love having a meal like that on a relaxed evening on holiday.

We had a day in Portal Nous because there's a little island a few hundred metres off the coast that you can swim to if you're a decent swimmer. But take rock shoes if you have them as the island is really rocky and painful to walk on in bare feet.

I wanted to come back to this in case anyone else finds themselves panicking about Portals!

We avoided the port/harbour itself for food (holy fuck!) and our hotel was actually in a pretty good spot where we could get to lots of decently priced (12€ ish) meals - Portals fish and chip shop is amazing and there's a big Mercadona supermarket nearby with cava for 1.80€ a bottle (wish we'd brought more back with us!)
