I got such great advice for a trip to Copenhagen that I thought I'd try you lot again :)

We're going in August WITHOUT DC. We like eating, drinking and people watching. We don't particularly like sunbathing on beaches or going to amusement parks and don't want to go shopping. We do like parks and sea views.

So...
Best places to eat
Best place to get a cocktail or four two
Best place for coffee and a people watch
What should we see and do?

It's just me and dh and it's a significant anniversary so we have a healthy budget. Dh's requirements are amazing food and drink and some sex with me, we're not that kind of tourists!

We haven't booked a hotel yet so if you have some recommendations for that too I'd be grateful.

old town san sebastian, its the heart - the point where all the action is. I would stay there - eat there, hang out there, all buzz and life is there, more bars per sq something - or something?

You must however go down coast and visit - Saint Jean de luz and then Biaritz I think - between the three its about an hour on bus ? very close to each other - all equally distinctive and gorgeous. Enjoy op its a stunning part of the world ( just had monsoon style rain every day when I was there once)

We considered flying back from Biarritz but got a much better flight from Bilbao. Dh is not keen to be travelling anywhere on a bus unless it's to or from the airport. He's not hugely keen to travel anywhere if it's not to eat at an amazing restaurant(!)

We have flights but no hotel yet. Eek!

Oh no thats a shame, its the 3 to do really for that area. and very easy to do - I have been there to that trio about 3 times now, I think we also have got train and once a taxi. Smile Biartiz is the old south of france where all the rich and famous used to holiday. Maybe you can lure him with restaurants, I remember one in St Jean - seemed like a sort of cellar, ate best baked egg ever had in my life ( not a mad fan of eggs - baked or otherwise... it was sensational).

you will find loads of places to stay in san seb, the old town is full of apartment type places - rented rooms but I am sure you want more upmarket than that ( also its noisy in the old part)

I'm planning the same trip in November, so I'm watching with interest.

We have booked a hotel in Gros. Eye-wateringly expensive for what it is but hopefully nice.

Dh has the Michelin guide out as we speak. I think we're going to eat our way round the city. I'm hoping it's like Seville where we pottered and ate tapas and had a lovely time.

I have been to Biarritz. It was very nice and I would go again. I would also do the trio without dh - with a friend or maybe my mum. A big part of our trip is just being together without doing anything or having to be responsible for anyone or on the clock. We usually do a lot of walking, eating and drinking and shagging
