Packing for holidays and know liquids need to be in hold luggage or clear bottles etc. But suntan lotion, hand cream etc is this allowed in hand luggage or not? This sort of stuff.

It's all about the volume, not what it is or whether it's in clear packaging.
Guidelines here

MrsNuckyThompson · 28/07/2017 19:20

That counts as a liquid so if it is over 100ml it can't go in hand luggage.

BikeRunSki · 28/07/2017 19:22

Not if the bottle can hold more than 100ml, regardless of how much is in it.

MsHippo · 28/07/2017 19:26

In short, no. Only liquids smaller than 100ml are allowed in hand luggage.

dementedpixie · 28/07/2017 19:30

Its the bag that's to be clear not the bottle. Liquids in hand luggage need to be in containers of max 100mls and need to fit in the clear resealable bag that is max size 20x20cm.

The cream you linked to is too big for hand luggage but could go in the hold

ThinkOfTheHorses · 28/07/2017 19:31

Under 100ml only
If you've only got hand luggage then buy the big stuff either at airport after security or on the holiday x

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 28/07/2017 19:34

The bottle doesn't need to be clear, the resealable bag does. The container can't be larger than 100ml and you can't take more than 1 litre (equivalent to a 20 x 20cm bag) of liquids per person (in hand luggage).

Branleuse · 28/07/2017 19:42

100ml sized bottles or smaller. That bottle will be too big. You can buy travel sized bottles which are ok to take through hand luggage, but if you want a bigger bottle, buy it at the airport or there, but you won't be able to bring it back via hand luggage either of course

eurochick · 28/07/2017 19:47

That's too big. As others have said bottles can be no bigger than 100m and allliquids and make up in liquid or paste form need to fit in a 20cm clear sealable bag.

You can buy at the airport though. At some you can click and collect to save time but all airports will stock a decent range of sun creams at this time of year.

ChoccyJules · 28/07/2017 19:50

We ran out of suncream on our last day on holiday a couple of years ago and had to buy more for our activities (late flight). I completely forgot it was in the day bag (hand luggage) and they chucked away £15 even though I begged!
On the way out to a hot place now I pack it in a plastic bag in the top of a suitcase and get it out and onto whoever needs it once we clear customs.

tangledup123 · 28/07/2017 19:53

I once accidentally took home a full bottle of sunscreen in my hand luggage and it wasn't picked up... But no, it's not allowed. Buy some in Boots once you're through security.

LIZS · 29/07/2017 10:23

We had a bottle removed at security on way back last year. 100ml is the limit so a travel size is ok.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 29/07/2017 10:41

No, that will need to be in hold luggage because its a liquid and over 100ml in volume.

beachbodyunready · 29/07/2017 11:54

Thanks all, it's now in the case.
