We have got a rare overnight babysitter and would love to find somewhere really nice but not too far away to stay.
We live in Bolton and are willing to drive around 11/2 hours, and would like somewhere with a nice restaurant or somewhere nearby to eat and maybe either a bar or some nightlife around.

Has anyone any ideas?

you need to come to Didsbury best place in the world... loads of really good restaurants and also bars plus the 2 hotels here are fab... I want to stay in them and only live 1 mile away!

check out the 2 didsbury ones,,,

They look gorgeous but a little pricy.
Just in case though..
Which restaurants would you recommend?

Come to the glorious South Lakes dizzymac (well, its glorious today can't guarantee it will stay that way) How about Kendal for good nightlife (nice bars, and the brewery arts centre often has (good) music nights on), the Langdales for peace and quiet (much peace and much quiet) Coniston town for peace but a good local drink or twelve.. Bowness for nice food (ok nightlife but a bit tacky round the edges...) google all of them for hotels... It's not a city break obviously, but a nice change, I guarantee
