We are hoping to go around 14th August for 7-10 days. There will be 2 adults and 2 kids aged 12 and 10. Flying form London. Croatia looks beautiful so we are keen too go but just not sure where!! We don't drive so need to fly somewhere and have a taxi transfer to somewhere initially. Happy to have a couple of days somewhere else( easy to get to) and even fly home for another airport. Kids want somewhere with a pool for at least part of the holiday and I just want somewhere beautiful with nice scenery and food etc. Don't want too quiet and off the beaten track. Has anyone stayed somewhere- hotel, apartment that would fit the bill or have an idea of an itinerary we could follow? Thanks

We stayed in Porec in northern Croatia last year and liked it. It is very touristy (mainly Italians/Germans/Austrians) but a genuine old town (indeed has a basilica which from memory dates from the 4th century). A lot of the hotels are outside the old town, but easy walking distance (10-15 minutes). We flew to Pula airport. We were on a package tour, so transport was provided from airport to our accommodation. I can't remember how long it took, but it didn't seem that long a journey. From Porec it is possible to do a day trip to Venice (though not cheap for 4 people). You can also do a more local boat trip to a neighbouring resort with an old town.

We're off to Croatia very soon - staying in an apartment in Split old town and a villa on one of the islands.

just got back form a week on Korcula- loved the island -only very minor problem is it is 3-4 hours form dubrovnik airport if you take it slowly . Beautiful surrounding islands- lovely old town of Korcula which is like a mini dubrovnik- great boat trips/kayaking and we went out on buggies- the island has a lovely sandy beach which is unusual for Croatia. Then spent a week sailing north of Spilt - great but preferred scenery of Korcula.

We liked Cavtat. Easy trip from Dubrovnik airport. Nice boat journey into old town Dubrovnik

shank2 great to hear you loved Korcula - we're flying into Split and are staying there 2 nights and 1 night to avoid ferry/ airport traumas!

Kayaking sounds ace! Kids are 12 and 14 so will love that. Which other islands did you visit? Sorry many questions but only know people who've stopped over in Korcula on sailing holidays Smile - we're staying the Vela Luca end of island but will have a car. Was the sea very cold? (We've been spoilt with warm sea the last few years)

Very excited!!

We stayed near Lumbarda- My girls are 13 and 15. Went out with Korcula adventures - went out on a small boat to a shipwreck, went by boat15 people to Mijet and swam in the green lakes and went quickly around the monastery.. Also went out on a boat to do snorkelling - also went on the buggies- 2 in each buggy - went to a winery and then finished up at the sandy beach near Lumbards where there is a small cocktail bar. All very good fun. Went into Korcula town once early in the saving and walked around- everything was brilliant- very hot.

we aslo paddled boarded and kayaked and just swam in the sea which we a nice temperature- found it warmer than up above split ? not so deep - sea very clear and good for snorkelling - small fish. Saw dolphin s when north of Split. Vineyards all very good and wine much cheaper on Korcula - cheap ice creams- under £1 for a gelato big ice cream - wine much cheaper than soft drinks or water

beach with sand on it wasVela Przina Beach - sand was hot - but water was also warm - small beach/cafe and also small cocktail bar for a treat - was quite busy late afternoon as locals come after work

We went to Cavtat in May. It was absolutely delightful. Sunsets were incredible. Easy taxi boat to Dubrovnik. DD 7 enjoyed it as much as us.
