booster seats

Are booster seats with backs just as safe as stage 2 car seats? My son will still be in the weight range for stage 2 for ages (small 3 yo) but wonder if a booster seat with back might more easily allow seat for no 3 in car.

if he's less than 15kg he's better off in one with a 5-point harness - the clincher about the boosters with backs is they rely on the adult belt to restrain the child, which isn't great if they're small.

Would something like the Britax Evolva 123 Ultra, which converts first to a booster with back, then to a booster cushion, be any good?

Thanks MrsB.He'll be less than 15Kg for ages. Thing is we have a stage 2 seat already, so unless the one you mention is much narrower not much point in buying another. Desperately trying to avoid having to buy a people carrier

No , the child's weight is the determining factor for holding the seat safely in place in an accident. dd is 5 1/2 and not yet 15kg so has an Evolva 123 Ultra with harness. It isn't the most slimline of seats though so not sure if you could fit a 3rd alongside easily and it only fits on certain positions in certain cars (see Britax Fitfinder).

might be worth measuring just in case - if it is narrower it'd be worth it as he won't grow out of it till he's 12...
