Barcelona airport transfer late at night with 11month old and no car seat!

I'm travelling to Barcelona on Monday for work and then my DH and 11 month old DS are flying in that evening. Their flight gets in ay 23.50 local time and I'm trying to book a taxi to pick them up from the airport and take them to the hotel. We'll need a car with a safety car seat. Has anyone used a company that provide baby seats? Not having much luck and I really want to sort this in advance!

Can you not take your existing seat?

littletwofeet · 16/06/2017 20:50

I would take your car seat. I wouldn't trust relying on a car seat provided by a taxi, they may send the wrong size/it could be v.old/have been in a crash/fitted incorrectly, etc.

welshweasel · 16/06/2017 20:51

Take your seat with you. I've seen some of the seats that taxis and hire car companies use and I wouldn't trust them at all. And no guarantee you'd get one. It's free to take a car seat with you.

dinosaurbum · 16/06/2017 20:55

Take your seat with you.

I just got back from Greece, I told them our DS weight for a car seat for the car hire (18.5kgs) thinking they followed the same laws as the uk.

Ended up with a booster seat, so basically a cushion.

That is ALL they had, so it was a choice if camping in the rental place or driving an hour to our villa... 😡😡😡

You can contact taxi firm [[https://www.booktaxibcn.com/es/ ]] online in English.

Or the aerobus to Plaza Cataluña runs until 1am and costs around 5 €. Buy tickets in the queue for the bus. It's quick and they come every 5 to 10 mins. Where are you staying?

Cheery1 · 16/06/2017 21:20

I wouldn't trust that Ryan air would let us bring on a car seat. I was told I'd have to pay for another whole seat!

We're staying bang in the middle of the City at Vincci Mae if that means anything. It's a really last minute job so all a bit stressful!

Will try that online firm, thanks LockedOut

Check it into the hold. It's normally free to do so

CazP2013 · 16/06/2017 21:24

From the Ryanair website: "You can carry 2 items of baby equipment free of charge per child - 1 pushchair plus one of the following items: car seat or booster seat or
On arrival at the airport the 2 free items of baby equipment can be tagged for travel at a Bag Drop Desk, which close 40 minutes before the scheduled flight departure time"

CazP2013 · 16/06/2017 21:24

Posted to early. Just bag your car seat with bin bags to protect it and check it in.

Car seats are completely free, you misunderstood: you have to buy a seat if you want to use your car seat on the plane itself.
Ryanair are good for flying with a baby, I've done it many times in the last year. Both car seat and buggy are free in the hold.

20thcenturybitch · 16/06/2017 21:28

Ryanair definitely let you check a car seat per infant or child. Plus a buggy if needed, get it tagged and take to gate. They are the most generous of the budget airlines for free baby equipment IME. 2 items per infant OR child.

Sorry on intermittent and very limited WiFi but from memory Vincci Mae's on Diagonal (NW of the city). Please check this, though! If I'm right it's a bit far for your DH to walk from Plaza Catalunya on a warm night with a baby and luggage but he could take the aerobus to plaza Cataluña (terminus) then it's a very very short taxi ride to the hotel?

Could you ask the hotel to arrange the transfer for you?

littletwofeet · 16/06/2017 21:47

Car seat it free if you check it in, it goes in the 'fragile luggage' bit but you can buy special padded carry bags if you are worried. At 11 months, I assume it's just the infant carrier though so it will probably be fine as it is.

I really wouldn't risk a taxi one being ok (like pp, I've seen some awful car seats in taxis & hire cars - really old ones, fitted incorrectly or not compatible with a particular car, etc).

Honestly, it's so easy to take your own seat.

Cheery1 · 16/06/2017 21:52

Ah ok, really helpful thank you. Hotel has been pretty unhelpful so far but I've emailed so I'm hoping they might have some solutions....thanks so much all xx
