Extortionate hotel babysitting rates at 5 star hotel!

I just have to get this off my chest. I have booked a trip to a five star hotel in Spain and have now learned that the hourly rate for babysitting is 25 euros!

This is ridiculous!! I have stayed at places like Babington House and paid £7 or 8 an hour so how can they justify this (about £17 per hour!)

Is this the going rate in swanky Continental European resorts?

Everything is extortiante in 5 star hotels.

£7/£8 is very cheap imo (for hotels that is).

Wow - that's expensive. Is it worth seeing if any MNetters live in the area and know anyone local who could help you?

Crikey, in Nice it was 20 Euros which we thought was extortionate. I'd do a lot of googling,if its a touristy area you may be able to find a local agency that does it for less.

I'm pretty used to everything being quite expensive in five star hotels (yes I'm lucky to have travelled a lot to good hotels for work) but this just strikes me as taking the p*ss.

It is a child friendly place and I just can't understand why they are charging so mch - obviously trying to make their own margin on top of the babysitter's pay. It's stupid as it's a disincentive to go out in the evening and actually spend money in their restaurants as most guests spend less on room service.

Oh well, am booked there now and will have to live with it. Might well Google and see if I can find anyone willing to do it from an agency....good idea!
