Good family destination within an hour of Geneva

For a variety of reasons we are only managing to get away as a family for a week this year and have left it really late to get anything sorted! The sort of holidays that have worked well in the past have been lakes and mountain type affairs, walking, cable cars, mountain lakes etc. This has always previously been in Switzerland but the last time we were there we really felt the effect of the exchange rate. Was planning to stick to euros this year so have booked flights to Geneva, and need some suggestions as to good village options within about an hours drive. I have skied in Samoans and thought it seemed ideal, gondolas for getting into the mountains to walk, outdoor pools, cycling in the valley and so on. I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas? Would Morzine be similar? Quite keen to have a pretty village for pottering around and lots of activities for teens plus cable cars!

I came on to say Annecy too.

My friend has beautiful chalet in St Jean du sixt, 20kms from Annecy. It's called Chalet le Daim. That area is lovely. La clusaz, grand Bernand, anywhere round there is ideal.

Morzine is very Brits Abroad IMO. What about Evian? Good base with a fabulous plage - lots of villages within a short drive.

Samoens every time! A much more real and authentic French village than most of the others roundabout, with proper shops as well as loads of cafes and tourist tat. You can also do canoeing down the river from just next to the gondola (amazing experience!) and microlight flying thingummies if you are feeling brave. We stayed at Trumanalp apartments and it was great.

Samoens is gorgeous, a proper French village with loads to do in the summer. Just 50 mins from Geneva. Try Alps Accommodation, they manage lots of lovely places.
