Booking last minute in october

The school that dc go to are having a 2 week half term in October, to help families be able to go away, as the first week will be when most other schools have not yet broken up. WE would like to book a family all inclusive break to somewhere like Lanzarote or Kos for this first week. Places we have been looking at are in excess of £2,000. We can afford this, but I still feel uncomfortable spending that sum of money, just seems so much for something that will last one week of our lives! Am thinking to try and book last minute in October, but worried that there will be no holidays left and we will end up having to stay at home. Has anyone had experience of booking last min on this type of holiday for a family of 4 around the October half term time? Is there usually some decent choices left? Thanks

most private schools have 2 weeks at October half term and a lot of state schools either are doing this and this is the week which can vary across the country. so its not like you are booking at the beginning of October when there are no other schools off.

I really wouldn't wait if I were you. there are very few last minute bargains in school holidays and generally what you end up with if you go last minute are the holidays that no one else wants and you have to ask yourself why. If you want to be certain of getting somewhere decent with the things that you are looking for then book as early as you can. if you do leave it late you might get lucky but more than likely you will either pay more or end up with something cheaper but that you don't enjoy as much. up to you really but wouldn't risk it personally.
