Which is the best, the most convenient etc, what swung it for you?

Many thanks 😊

We have always stayed in Port Orleans French Quarter. It's a moderate resort, whereas the two you have mentioned a DVC resorts.

We love it. It's the smallest resort to easy to get about, you have the Riverside resort a short walk away and can share facilities with them.

Going back next year - can't wait!

DVC - does that mean we have to be a member to stay there then?

Also stayed in port Orleans French quarter. Very convenient for Downtown Disney

We always stayed at Port Orleans as well , very convenient , we've stayed at the French and riverside and marginally prefer Riverside .

you can stay at DVC resorts but I think they give priority to DVC owners.

I'm a DVC owner. Old Key West and SS are the two DVC properties which are frequently available through Disney for non-Disney owners, often as part of their free dining promotions. The other DVC properties are much more difficult to get direct through Disney (though you can rent points from owners through sites like David's DVC rentals).

Both properties are lovely but very spread out so unless you are renting a car, you may need to use the internal bus system within the resort (I.e. Taking the bus around the resort as well as to the parks).

If you aren't renting a car, I'd second the suggestion of Port Orleans as it's very compact. If you are renting a car I'd work out how much time you might want to spend at Disney Springs. If it's a lot, I'd go with SS as you can walk there (or take a boat). If you don't expect to spend much time there, I'd go with OKW (you can still take a boat to Disney Springs, and you can also take a boat there from Port Orleans).

Thanks noofly that's so helpful. We are hiring a car so I suppose either would do. Am I right in thinking that Disney Springs is what was Downtime Disney? My kids loved it last time, so yes I think we would probably go there a few times.

We stayed at SS last year, and hired a car. It is possible to stay there without a car, and we used the buses sometimes, but it was nice to have the car. From SS you can catch the boat to Disney Springs, or you can walk, as it is the closest resort to DS.

There are a number of pools and restaurants. You can have a studio, which is just like a hotel room, but we had a one bedroom, which meant we had a full kitchen and washer dryer. We had a lot more space than when we stayed in a hotel.

We also had free Disney Dining, which was fantastic. I would definitely go there again.

We stayed at OKW in a one bedroom SC apartment which was huge! We didn't hire a car, but found it very easy to get around on the Disney busses.

RudeDog · 03/06/2017 15:26

We're at OKW just now! It is more spread out but the buses go around the resort rather than just the main building. 3rd time here and never had a car. It's close to most of the parks

The rooms are bigger here and it's a very quiet resort - buses are rarely full.

We use SS a fair bit - we walk there (20 minutes) to use the quick service for breakfast as much better than OKW - it's a much busier but more compact resort.

Yes, Disney Springs is what used to be Downtown Disney. It's changed quite a bit (not sure I like the changes but fortunately most of the original site by the water is much the same).

I would go onto the DIS boards. They have a thread dedicated to each resort which is full of pictures and all the information you could possibly ever want to know about them. You can also find out about the names of best areas for room requests- e.g. if at SS if you want a view of Disney Springs vs being close to the main pool vs being close to a quiet pool etc. Disney won't guarantee requests but we've had pretty good luck in the past.
