How do you travel with a toddler in a taxi abroad?

DS is 18 months old.

In the UK he obviously has a car seat in the car at home. We occasionally use black cabs and so his pram wheels in.

On previous trips we've hired a car and so taken our car seat. We'd like to do more city breaks but his car seat is big now and not quixk to fit into a taxi or even lug around so what do you do?

I had seen the trunki booster seat rucksack but thought booster seats were no longer allowed, but on closer inspection he is a few kg off the start weight anyway.

Any suggestions?

When we have traveled on the past kids have either just sat in the seat normally or on our lap

Uber now has an option to hire a car with a car seat in many cities. It's more expensive but obviously much safer. If you're hiring a car it can be cheaper to buy a local car seat than pay for any extended car seat hire.

Got the wrong end of the stick. I always carried a bottle of water with me and if she had an accident I pretended that I'd spilt water.
