So, have a couple of hours and don't know the city at all.
Where is best to head to for a gentle stroll / sightsee?
Thanks!

If the weather''s lke here, I'd get a canal boat tour or an open-top bus tour.

I know that's a great idea, but fancied a stroll, can't work out from the map which is the most picturesque part of town....

I love a walk from the station up the side of the canals to the flower market.

Tram 5 from central station to the museumplein (takes about 7-8 mins. max, buy ticket on the tram). Walk across the museumplein to the concert gebouw on Van baerlestraat. Get something to eat or a drink at De Wildschut, sit outside and people watch. Then walk down Beethovenstraat which is lovely. Tram 5 to get back to Centraal station or leidsplein.

All of these places are marked on Google Maps.

I also like the Jordaan for walking and there are nice if overpriced cafés etc. in the nine streets.

Or the Plantage which you can walk to, going from the St. Nicholas church opposite Centraal station to the left (east) with the station behind you to the Niewmarkt then to the Waterlooplein and Rembrandt's house then carry on down that street which curves to the left (east) to the botanical gardens, then the Hollandse schouwberg (theatre) and zoo/tropics museum/planetarium - that area reminds me of Regent's Park.

Cafe koosje is nice in the Plantage (it's on the main Street, Plantage middenlaan, close to the zoo).

Everywhere I've mentioned is on Google Maps.
