NIce or Monaco

Hi there
We have a house in northern France about 1.5hours from Paris. We are planning our holiday here but plan on taking a flight to the South for 3-5 nights. Has anyone been to either of the above and if so what's best for young children? (2.5 year old and 10 month old). Appreciate they aren't big family destinations but it will be for a maximum of 5 nights to celebrate my 30th following a week of chilling out and paddling pools! Any hotel reccomendations also?

Sorry you'd probably prefer a recommendation from someone who's been to both for a comparison, I've only been to Nice so have no idea about Monaco, but Nice was certainly lovely! There's a really long strip going along the beach which is nice to walk up & down and squares to hang out if you need a sit down, shopping centres too. Wish I could remember more specifics but I definitely had a brilliant time there, it helped that it was really hot and every day was a beach day!

Thank you. The promenade looks great and just what we are looking for. Hoping to find a hotel with a pool and maybe some play parks if anyone can point us in the right direction!

Monaco is not great for strolling around. Apart from the old town, the roads are set up for vehicles and not pedestrians.
Unless your kids like designer boutiques, i'd swerve it!

Nice is great! Love it!

Neither are great for kids. Further up the coast - Frejus and St. Raphael are more kid friendly towns. Lots of water parks, free playgrounds and less crowded than the beaches at Nice.

Monaco isn't great for kids but if you go the Oceanographic Museum is really cool!

Been to both - Monaco is not for children. And it is not for walking around either.

If you subs to chose between the 2, Nice is much better!

If you are desperate to go to Monaco you can take the train there (unlike the residents who use helicopters or yachts!) but it is a series of steep hills with lifts and not much pavement.

If you want to go to Monaco, I would do it is a day trip, it's a short and scenic train ride from Nice. It is very expensive (10 euros for a coffee in the cafe outside the famous casino) and the hills/stairs would be a killer with pushchair. There is a good aquarium though, including a nice rooftop restaurant with a playground. Nice would make a better base of those two places. There are some lovely parks, the castle, colourful market, the beach. I would also consider Cannes, as it has sandy beaches (Nice has stoney ones). Hotels are not cheap (consider AirBnB) but if you are after a nice hotel and have the budget, I would recommend Le Majestic Barriere in Cannes; it has the added benefit of a lovely, relaxed kids club.
