Only been to Paphos for the day but it was beautiful. Been to Protaras before and we loved it. Good for families as nice beaches and nice shops/cafe/bars

Paphos is a lot more "touristy" and picturesque. OK, it has it's dowdy areas, as it's an old resort, but there's also plenty of new/modern. Limassol is a lot more commercial. The first time we went, our rep summed them up perfectly - she said if you want to look at fishing boats bobbing around in the sea, go to Paphos, but if you want to look at tankers and cargo ships bobbing around, go to Limassol!

But having said all that, I'm now a convert to Protaras at the other end of the Island which is a lot more modern and has a lot more going for it such as watersports, etc., and still doesn't have the cargo ships and tankers as a view! The Island is small, so driving to Protaras from Paphos airport isn't too bad, although you could fly into Larnacre instead.

I really didn't like Limassol. Ugly town and not much of a beach. I've heard Protaras is lovely.

oooh I'm going to Protaras on a Villa holiday next May half term ...bit worried about flight costs though. Coral Bay area in Paphos supposed to be lovely

I went with DD1(who is 24) last November to Paphos. It was quiet as slightly out of season but we really enjoyed it. it was peaceful and relaxing and just what we needed. Depends what you are looking for i think. I had heard that Limassol was more nightlife/clubby.

OatcakeCravings · 08/06/2017 19:36

I've been to both, I'd say Paphos. Been to Limassol twice, the first time 20 odd years ago and I loved it but then they built a big motorway type road down the middle and it totally changed. So Paphos!

Went to paphos 3 years ago and can't imagine I will ever return.

Pointeshoes · 08/06/2017 19:47

Go to protaras much nicer.

Sparkletastic · 08/06/2017 19:48

Pathos if you must. Neither are great. Nicosia more exciting.

CypriotDonkey · 09/06/2017 11:24

Limassol is very spread out and more of a working town. Beaches not that great. I would chose Paphos, the beaches arent all that good but at least has the harbour area and more of a holiday feel.

We are going back soon for our 8th visitGrin

Paphos. Nothing in Limmsaol.

Effendi · 10/06/2017 04:54

I live in Limassol and I have been a holiday rep there too. I love living here but I would not choose it for a holiday.
Its large and sprawling and very busy with traffic. There has been masses of regeneration but it is still very much a working city.

For beaches and family friendly I would go to Protaras.
If you like quiet, Pissouri, Polis or Latchi.

I don't like Paphos personally but Coral Bay area is quite nice.

Paphos - especially if you're hiring a car. So many wonderful hidden gems within a short drive; Polis and Latchii, Troodos, Pissouri, Marks and Spencer and Debenhams Grin

MissBax · 10/06/2017 07:00

Paphos definitely - I lived there for 6 months for work a few years back and absolutely fell in love with it!

Onceafortnight · 10/06/2017 07:04

Pathos is much prettier. Limassol is horrible.

exLtEveDallas · 10/06/2017 07:22

Limassol has Lady's Mile Beach though that is lovely (and Fasouri Waterpark, The Mall, an ice rink and Little Plates)

Paphos is 'nicer' for sure, but hire a car and get out and about with it as a base.

I lived in Cyprus for 6 years. Paphos is a holiday town, lots of cafes, holiday shops, and nice walks. Plus all your typical holiday tourist things to do. Speedboats, boat trips etc. It is It's quite a small place tho. Limassol is more built up & industrial, and is literally just one straight road. You would be bored of Limassol and it's ugly surroundings more than picturesque Paphos.
You could probably do Paphos in a day, I couldn't go for 2 weeks or whatever, but whatever floats your boat I guess. There is a haunted castle, just by the harbour, be sure to visit that. And a lovely little cafe/restaurant called tea for two. 1960's American place. It's delightful! So be sure to eat there too.
There is nightlife in Paphos, to accommodate the young party goers and the older generation, not wanting that kind of nightlife, like nice taverns and Cypriot & English bars etc where the younger ones tend to stay away from. Karaoke too.
Anyway, get ya self off to Aiya Napa! Now that's where the parties at! I used to drive there every weekend. Couldn't remember much of my weekends there tho! Grin😇💃🍹
