Hello all. I'd like to go away on my own for a week in June. I don't have anyone to go away with but am desperate for a break and bit of sun. Can anyone recommend somewhere that's not too far and not too expensive - not just countries/areas but specific accommodation? Thank you.

Also would appreciate any advice from those that have holidayed alone. Hotel? Apartment? Eating alone - is it awful? I'm very nervous about it all!

I've holidayed alone a couple of times - but went on 'activity' type holidays so that I wasn't just mooching about on my own all the time - I at least had people to chat to while doing the activity. The first time I went on holiday to Hurgada in Egypt to learn dive - stayed in an apartment and ate in restaurants on my own in the evening (with lots of questions about where was my husband from the waiters/restaurant owners). The second time I went on a ski-ing holiday and stayed in a chalet so had people to eat with the evening.

My recommendation would be that, if your budget stretches to it, to try and tie the holiday with an activity so you're not on your own all the time. Neilson have 'beach club' resorts which offer lots of activities, but they're not cheap (but might be cheaper outside school holidays).

Would recommend Hotel Cavtat in Cavtat, Croatia. Lovely little place with no hassle. 10 minutes in taxi from airport and you can get boats to other islands and to Dubrovnik if you want things to do.
