Scotland with a nine month old

Hi,

My husband and I are thinking of hiring a car, packing up our son who will be 9 months old by the time we are thinking of going, and heading to Scotland, but we don't really know anything about it.

We'd like to stay in a couple of places. We love historical things like castles and old houses. We'd like to see a beautiful Scottish beach.

Any recommendations? What should we not miss?
